Championship leaders Burnley could face a summer battle with Juventus for Emil Holm with Spezia’s Serie A starlet a target for both clubs, according to Corriere di Torino.

Juan Cuadrado, come May, will have to find enough room on his birthday cake for 35 candles. The veteran Colombian may still be going strong well into his fourth decade, but even he cannot keep defying Father Time forever.

Juventus, the report says, are already planning to bring in a more youthful alternative on the right-hand side. And they have settled on a player who, along with Jakub Kiwior, Ademola Lookman and co, was one of Serie A’s most exciting breakthrough talents in 2022.

Emil Holm, capped twice by Sweden, is a fans’ favourite at Spezia. He has one goal and two assists in Italy’s top flight, while thriving in both attacking and defensive roles. Holm’s versatility and technical ability, Il Secolo XIX report, has caught the eye of Brentford and a Burnley side almost certain to join them in the Premier League next term.

The Bees and the Clarets opened talks with Spezia recently, with Holm valued at around £6 million. Interest from the likes of Juventus and Fiorentina could see the 22-year-old’s price-tag rise exponentially, however. Especially given that Holm is under contract at Spezia until the summer of 2026.

Burnley, then, will be watching the drama facing Juventus unfold with interest. Their future remains very much in the air; handed a 15-point deduction following an investigation into the club’s financial dealings (Daily Mail). It remains to be seen how their summer plans will be affected.

“There are players who have shortcomings that they can improve,” Spezia’s Chief Financial Officer Eduardo Macia tells TMW of Holm. “If we notice these shortcomings, they can be improved. We mustn’t waste time.

“Holm has understood what he has to do, and he’s improving a lot.”

Burnley currently have two high-quality right-backs – Connor Roberts and Vitinha. Holm, however, would provide further depth, and added flexibility on the flank. Interestingly, Burnley have already snapped up one Sweden international this year; Hjalmar Ekdal scoring his first Clarets goal in Saturday’s 3-0 win at Norwich City.
