Leicester City midfielder James Maddison has lauded his England teammate Harry Kane on Instagram by telling him that it’s ‘brilliant’ he has become Tottenham Hotspur’s all-time leading goalscorer with 267 goals.

The 29-year-old created history on February 5th 2023. After over five decades, Jimmy Greaves’ long-standing Tottenham record of 266 goals was broken.

Luckily for Kane, he created that historic moment during Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Manchester City in the Premier League, so when he does look back on this moment in years to come, then at least it won’t be a bitter-sweet moment.

Perhaps one of the cleanest and finest strikers of a football in many decades, the goal in itself from Kane wasn’t one of his best.

After Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg pressed Manchester City into a mistake in their own defensive third, he fed Kane a through ball, whose scuffed shot bounced as it slowly beat Ederson in between Manchester City’s sticks.

After the game, Kane was inundated with messages from fellow teammates at his historic moment, with Maddison posting in the comments section ‘brilliant, mate’, Kyle Walker-Peters added ‘congrats’, whilst Robbie Keane told him ‘So happy for you’.

WHAT NEXT FOR KANE…

Jimmy Greaves’s record was held for decades and decades, and in truth, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Kane’s remains for longer.

He is a Tottenham legend and perhaps their greatest-ever player.

But when next for the England captain? The £200k-a-week star (Spotrac) has less than 18 months to run on his contract. Is it time to leave? Will he win those much-needed trophies at Hotspur Way?

The answer he has been getting for most of his career is ‘no’, therefore, he has a very big call to make when he does take that next step in his career.
