Ian Wright joked how Harry Kane is still scoring ‘very important’ goals, not just for Tottenham Hotspur, but ‘for Arsenal as well’ after he became his club’s all-time leading goalscorer on Sunday.

The England captain scored goal number 267 for Spurs during their 1-0 win over Manchester City and Wright admitted that he was jumping with joy when that goal went in, as he told the Kelly and Wrighty Show on Premier League Productions (06/02/23 at 2:05 pm).

Some think Wright would have been celebrating because Spurs stopped Pep Guardiola’s side from closing the gap on leaders Arsenal to two points, but it was also because he was pleased for Kane and his record.

By the time the 29-year-old hangs up his boots, there is every chance he is Tottenham, England and the Premier League’s all-time leading scorer.

That is some achievement and records to have under your name, but the obvious of no trophies will be thrown at the player.

Nonetheless, this is what Wright made of Kane’s record-breaking weekend and how he reacted to the action at Hotspur Way.

“He is still scoring very important goals, not just for him, but for Arsenal as well,” said Wright with a smile on his face.

“It’s really funny. When he scored that goal, because of the record and that, I was jumping for that. It’s not even that it was against Man City.

“Being in a position where you can break a record, and then you do it. Being such an important game and goal, I am not joking, I was pleased for him that he broke the record, firstly.”

KANE DOES ARSENAL A FAVOUR

On Monday, the Arsenal players would have gone into training in a better mood than how they were feeling on Saturday evening.

That defeat against Everton was the first game of the season where Mikel Arteta would have held his hands up and admitted that his team just weren’t good enough.

But the obvious was being thrown at the team and that’s if their potential slide was going to start.

Well, the crazy thing here is that, Arsenal could slide, but even then, they still might become champions of England because Manchester City don’t look like the same team that has previously been dominating for years.
