Confusion surrounds Newcastle United’s apparent interest in taking highly-rated Jamaican talent Dujuan Richards on trial.
Every now and then, a transfer rumour pops up that raises a few eyebrows – both for fans and staff.
One such rumour has now appeared for Newcastle United, and it surrounds Jamaican prospect Dujuan Richards.
The Jamaica Observer reported in January that Richards was heading for the North East and would be undergoing a two-week trial with Newcastle.
NUFC Blog backed up the claims, suggesting that Richards would be starting his trial with Newcastle on Monday, February 6th having arrived in the UK last week.
Yet Newcastle seem to be a little confused; Under-21 boss Ben Dawson told The Chronicle that he had no idea about the rumours and hadn’t been told of Richards or anybody else coming in for training.
The alleged date of Richards’ trial is just hours away and fans remain confused, but let’s dig into just how the Jamaican is…

Who is Newcastle-linked Dujuan Richards?
Richards only turned 17 in November but has been earning rave reviews in Jamaica.
Kingston College coach Raymond Watson has hailed Richards as a ‘great player’ and even feels that he ‘could be unstoppable’ if he develops properly.
Richards has even managed to earn the nickname ‘Whisper’, with Watson going on to brand the teenager ‘special’.
Richards has been playing at schoolboy level in Jamaica and the Chronicle suggest that he scored 30 goals at that level last season.
The teenager is also a part of the Phoenix All Stars Academy, which is where Aston Villa star Leon Bailey got his start in Jamaica.
The academy is run by Bailey’s adoptive father Craig Butler, and he has been quoted as saying that Richards is heading for a trial with a top five Premier League club.
The only Jamaican player to turn out for Newcastle in the Premier League is Rolando Aarons but there seems to be a chance for Richards to do the same – if the trial does happen!
