Jamie Carragher has fired subtle shots at Joel Matip and Joe Gomez for their defending against Wolves, as Liverpool have suffered a 3-0 annihilation at the Molineux Stadium.
The high-profile Sky pundit and ex-Reds defender did not directly address the pair in his tweet. However, the veiled dig was clearly aimed at the defensive pair, out of whom the former conceded a silly own goal, which opened proceedings for the hosts.
Jamie Carragher aims veiled dig at Joel Matip and Joe Gomez as Liverpool lose to Wolves
During the clash, Jamie Carragher had hinted at Liverpool duo, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez exposed for their real selves against Wolves, without the presence of Virgil van Dijk.
“It’s not too difficult to play centre-back next to the leader of the back 4 [Virgil van Dijk], judge centre-backs [Joel Matip and Joe Gomez against Wolves] when they have to lead themselves. Shambolic”, Carragher tweeted as Liverpool were getting battered by Wolves.

While the renowned pundit did not exactly name names, it was clear as day the players he was referring to.
Jamie Carragher is trivialising the issue at hand
Sure, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez were a shambles for Liverpool at the back against Wolves, and there is no disagreeing with Jamie Carragher about this very reality.
However, there is also no running away from the fact that the Merseyside-based side have been atrocious at the back, even when Virgil van Dijk has been available this season.
Furthermore, Jurgen Klopp cannot be exempt from criticism as well, for largely failing to come up with any tactical solutions for his side, who seem to be in freefall.
As poor as Joel Matip and Joe Gomez were for Liverpool against Wolves, it would make for an insightful conversation if Jamie Carragher addressed other contributors who have led to the club’s downfall on the pitch.
