Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal plan to hand Granit Xhaka a fresh contract after the new deal for Gabriel Martinelli, according to The Sun journalist Daniel Cutts on Twitter.
New Arsenal contract for Granit Xhaka
Cutts has claimed that now that Arsenal have sorted the future of Brazil international forward Martinelli, the Gunners want a new deal for Xhaka sorted “ASAP”.
The £110,000-a-week (SalarySport) Swiss midfielder is under contract at the Gunners until the summer of 2024, with Arsenal having the option to extend it by another year.
Good decision?
In our view, it would be sensible of Arsenal to hand a new contract to Granit Xhaka.
Yes, the Swiss star is 30 now, but he is playing extremely well at the moment and is a leader in the middle of the park.

Xhaka has calmed down as a player and is not making silly challenges or getting into unnecessary confrontations with opposition players.
One of the main reasons why Arsenal are at the top of the Premier League table at the moment is the form and performance of Xhaka.
The midfielder has imposed himself in the middle of the park and is also driving the team forward from midfield.
Arsenal need quality and experienced players such as Xhaka for the next two or so years, and it would make sense for the Gunners to hand him a new deal now.
