Will Dubravka get a medal if Newcastle lose to Manchester United? Many fans are wondering ahead of the Carabao Cup final.

The Slovakia international spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Old Trafford before Eddie Howe decided to recall him at the start of January.

Dubravka made two appearances for the Red Devils before returning to St James’ Park, both of which came in the Carabao Cup.

Therefore, the 34-year-old is officially cup-tied and cannot take part at Wembley if Nick Pope finds himself unavailable.

So, will Dubravka receive a medal if Newcastle lose to Manchester United? Let’s take a look…

Will Dubravka get a medal if Newcastle lose to Manchester United?

Well, the Newcastle No.1 is officially eligible to receive a winner’s medal if Manchester United win the Carabao Cup.

However, Dubravka would not officially be allowed to have a medal if Newcastle win, strangely enough.

EFL rules state: “In addition to the Cup, the Management Committee shall present 30 souvenirs to the winning Club in the Final Tie and 30 souvenirs to the losing Club. Additional souvenirs may be presented with the consent of the Management Committee but shall be at the cost of the requesting Club.”

That means there are 30 medals for Manchester United to hand out if they win the Carabao Cup, with Dubravka eligible to have one after making two appearances in the competition for the Red Devils earlier this season.

In our view, the Slovakian may choose to reject his medal, given the slightly awkward circumstances.

Dubravka certainly finds himself in between a rock and a hard place.

The only way he can officially receive a medal is if his side lose the Carabao Cup final, although it is possible that Howe purchases extra medals to unofficially spread around his squad to those ineligible as a thank you.

It is certainly a unique situation for Dubravka, although we would expect him to be rooting for Newcastle on the sidelines at Wembley given his stronger association with the Magpies, in comparison to his brief affiliation with Manchester United.
