Neil McCann has lauded Rangers defender Ben Davies for his performance on Wednesday night, suggesting the Ibrox star is finally improving since his move to Ibrox under Michael Beale – and giving Connor Goldson the ideal partner.
Davies, 26, completed 90 minutes just three times in the Premiership before Beale’s arrival. It comes after Rangers paid Liverpool a fee of £4million in the summer. But now, Davies has played every minute of his side’s last nine matches.
Seven league games in a row, the 1-0 Scottish Cup win over St. Johnstone and, the extra-time semi-final League Cup win over Aberdeen. Rangers have kept six clean sheets in those nine, conceding just five goals – two against Celtic.
Speaking about Davies after he helped Rangers arguably produce their best performance under Beale since the boss’ arrival, a 3-0 win away at Hearts, McCann was full of praise. He feels £27k-a-week Davies is improving under Beale.

“I think Ben Davies has been excellent on the left side of defence. He’s starting to look really comfortable. Goldson for so long has struggled to find a partnership he enjoys. Davies is starting to look the part,” McCann told BBC’s coverage.
McCann: Rangers defender Davies is improving under Beale
When Rangers lured Davies to Ibrox it was seen as a bit of a coup. He was coming from Liverpool, a £4million fee. But early signs were that Rangers had overpaid. But, he is beginning to show the method behind Ross Wilson’s decision.
He perfectly compliments Goldson. Left-footed, he is excellent in the air but has that initial speed over the first few yards to step out and win the ball. Three interceptions, four clearances and completed 33 of 36 passes (WhoScored).
Davies is improving with every game he plays and as we enter the final third of the Premiership season, it is about time. Beale deserves a lot of credit for remaining patient with the ex-Preston man and it is paying off.
