The Sun claim on their blog (31/01, 11.16AM) that Rangers have seen a loan bid rejected to lure Cole Palmer to Ibrox until the end of the season from Premier League champions Manchester City, on the final day of the transfer window.

England U21 star Palmer has clocked up 30 senior appearances at City and there is a real feeling he could be the next of the conveyor belt. But he has not been given the chance to leave the club on loan – playing 17 times this season.

Much like Pep Guardiola did with Phil Foden, Palmer has not been allowed to go out on loan. That is not to say there has not been interest. The report from The Sun claims that Brighton and Sheffield United have tried to sign Palmer.

Now, Rangers are the latest club to show interest in Palmer and have made a loan bid to lure the youngster to Ibrox. However, Manchester City have decided to reject the loan move for Palmer. Guardiola says he has a “special quality”.

Rangers have seen a loan bid to lure Palmer to Ibrox rejected today

Palmer is a serious talent. Easily, a future England international and a player that could go on to become the next Foden at City – especially, under Guardiola’s tutorship. A move to Rangers would have given him the chance to shine.

But given that he is already getting a decent amount of game time in a Manchester City side fighting for trophies and with a real chance of winning the Champions League, it makes sense that he is staying. City have rejected the move.

Even if they had accepted a loan offer from Rangers, you would argue that Palmer would still want to stay put anyway. Rangers could win the Scottish Cup. They have an outside chance of the League title. But, Palmer is better off at City.
