Everton are now set to pull the plug on any deadline day transfer of Udinese star Beto. The Goodison Park side accept the striker will cost too much to sign for new boss Sean Dyche.

That is according to Sky Sports, which reports Everton have held talks with Udinese over a last-gasp transfer for Beto. But the Serie A side informed their Merseyside counterparts of their reluctance to sell the 25-year-old. He is also under contract in Udine until June 2026.

Everton have now reviewed their valuation of Beto but feel Udinese would want too much for a transfer. So, Dyche is unlikely to see the Portuguese ace follow him to Goodison after replacing Frank Lampard in charge. He had targeted a striker to boost the Toffees’ output.

Only Wolves (12) have scored fewer Premier League goals so far this season than Everton (15) managed under Lampard. Anthony Gordon, who has now joined Newcastle United for £45m, and Demarai Gray are also the Toffees’ best scorers so far this term with just three.

Only Dwight McNeil has also scored more than once for Everton in the top-flight this term with two. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Neal Maupay have just a goal to their names. While Salomon Rondon did not net before being axed and Ellis Simms is yet to net in two games.

Everton pull the plug on a deadline day transfer for Udinese star Beto

Everton appreciated what Beto has shown in Serie A so targeted his last-gasp transfer from Udinese. The forward has scored seven and assisted a goal through his 20 Italian top-flight appearances so far. He is the Bianconeri’s top scorer with a quarter of his side’s total of 28.

But Udinese are trying to qualify for Europe with the Stadio Friuli side seventh in the table after 20 games. So, owner Giampaolo Pozzo, president Franco Soldati and manager Andrea Sottil have sought to fend off the Toffees’ interest in a striker they only bought last summer.

Beto joined Udinese permanently following his season on loan from Portimonense for €7m (£6m), plus €3m (£2.5m) in add-ons. Yet TuttoMercatoWEB reports that Everton offered to pay Udinese €25m (£22m) to agree on the transfer of Beto earlier on during deadline day.
