Arsenal players are understood to be excited as Chelsea midfielder Jorginho closes in on a move to the Emirates Stadium.

That’s according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who claims that Jorginho is heading to Arsenal for £11million plus add-ons.

“The word I’m hearing from inside Arsenal is there’s quite a lot of excitement among the players and the staff about a very experienced player, a Euros winner with Italy at Wembley against England, as we remember. He’s achieved a lot in the game, won trophies and played at an elite level and I think his technical style will fit in nicely with Mikel Arteta’s squad,” he added.

Arsenal have been chasing a new midfielder since learning of Mohamed Elneny’s injury earlier this month.

Brighton and Hove Albion ace Moises Caicedo was a top target but the Seagulls are simply refusing to sell.

That means Chelsea have had to pivot to a cheaper option and Jorginho certainly fits that bill.

The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and Chelsea have decided to take the cash now before he leaves for nothing.

Jorginho’s wages will be considerable but the £11million fee is about £70million less than Caicedo would have set Arsenal back.

Jorginho brings winning mentality to Arsenal

It’s probably fair to say that Jorginho maybe isn’t exactly what Arsenal wanted.

The Italian doesn’t have the athletic or defensive capabilities of Thomas Partey in that holding role.

There have also been questions raised about Jorginho’s suitability given the tempo Arsenal play at under Mikel Arteta.

Still, Arteta is a huge fan of Jorginho and seemingly sees him playing a key role in Arsenal’s push for the title.

This is where Jorginho could be absolutely vital; that winning mentality he provides.

Jorginho has won the Champions League and Europa League with Chelsea as well as bagging the European Championship with Italy in 2021.

Arsenal are a young team going for their first Premier League title under Arteta and adding that know-how of Jorginho could be vital.

That experience is why Arsenal players are seemingly buzzing with the move, believing that Jorginho can help them get their hands on the Premier League title.
