Arsenal face paying a ‘significant’ fee for Chelsea midfielder Jorginho – and his former club Napoli could launch a bid of their own.
It wouldn’t be the end of the transfer window without a bit of drama now, would it?
Arsenal have been chasing a new midfielder and have been rebuffed in their attempts to sign Brighton and Hove Albion star Moises Caicedo.
Rumours on Monday night suggested that Arsenal were turning their attention to Chelsea midfielder Jorginho.
Fabrizio Romano claims that Mikel Arteta is a big fan of Jorginho and the Chelsea man is a ‘concrete name’ in the final hours of the window.
However, Romano states that Chelsea still want a ‘significant fee’ for Jorginho, even with his contract expiring this summer.
The Blues are unlikely to give Jorginho a new deal so a hefty cash sum right now seems very unlikely.
It’s unclear just how much Chelsea want, but maybe they’re inclined to hike up the price because it’s rivals Arsenal keen on signing him.

Arsenal must beware Napoli bid for Jorginho
Arsenal may not be alone in the race to sign Jorginho.
90Min’s Graeme Bailey claims that Napoli have been looking to bring Jorginho back to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Napoli were looking at a pre-contract agreement for the Italian midfielder but could now offer competition for Arsenal to contend with on deadline day.
Jorginho, 31, joined Napoli from Hellas Verona way back in 2014 and became a star under Maurizio Sarri.
Jorginho played more than 150 times for Napoli before earning his move to Chelsea in 2018.
A move back to Naples would be an emotional switch for Jorginho and that pull is something Arsenal must be wary of in the coming hours.
Just like Arsenal, Napoli are sitting top of the table and are chasing an unexpected title victory.
Both teams seemingly believe that Jorginho can help them win silverware, leaving the Brazil-born ace with a potential decision.
Stay in London and finally join Arsenal after their 2020 interest, or head back to Italy and join Luciano Spalletti’s special Napoli side?
That’s a tough call and if Napoli firm up their interest, Arsenal may be in real danger of missing out here.
