Formose Mendy may have played his ‘last game’ for Amiens with Premier League duo West Ham United and Southampton keen on the Senegal international, the Ligue 2 club’s sporting director tells Le11 Amienois.

When available, Mendy has played all but 70 minutes of Amiens’ league campaign, starting 18 times in France’s second tier. But the message, coming out of Stade de la Licorne, is one of resignation. Enjoy him while you can, Amiens supporters, because he won’t be here forever.

Will Mendy even be an Amiens player come Tuesday night, when The Unicorns travel to Niort? That remains to be seen, The Athletic reporting that West Ham have opened talks with the Dakar-born 22-year-old, potentially seeing Mendy as a potential replacement for the now-departed Craig Dawson.

Southampton are interested too, though Senegalese publication Wiw Sports believe that Mendy would choose the Hammers over the Saints.

West Ham and Southampton like Amiens ace Formose Mendy

“We anticipate departures,” admits Amiens director John Williams. “If you have to move at the last moment, there is everything you need.

“We remain open to sales. It may be the last match (for Mendy) at Amiens SC. This is the history of football; he has been here for 18 months and has been performing. He went to the World Cup.

“It is logical that he should continue his progress elsewhere. If he leaves, he will be replaced.”

FootMercato believe that work permit concerns may be the biggest obstacle standing in West Ham’s way. Mendy, who has featured just twice for his country, may not pass all the requirements in order to play in the Premier League.

It is believed that, if West Ham miss out, Monaco could swoop in. Les Monegasques have an outstanding track record when it comes to finding football’s next generation of superstars, and 22-year-old Mendy can certainly be described as a ‘typical Monaco signing’.
