Harry Kane should be thrilled by the imminent arrival of Sporting Lisbon star Pedro Porro at Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur, former Newcastle United and Crystal Palace ace Darren Ambrose tells talkSPORT (29 January, 8pm).

This season alone, Porro has three goals and an impressive 11 assists from just 26 appearances. More than Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty put together.

The former Manchester City youngster passes the eye test too. Those trademark deliveries from the flank, the Spurs-supporting Ambrose points out, should make for satisfying viewing for Tottenham’s talismanic number ten; Porro destined to become the club’s most creative and threatening right-back since Kieran Trippier joined Atletico Madrid four years ago.

Tottenham are close to signing starlet Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon

“Pedro Porro, for me, is what we need,” Ambrose argues. “I think, the right-back position, we’ve not really got it right since the Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier.”

“I was watching clips of him, and he just looks exciting. His delivery looks fantastic. I think if Harry Kane is seeing that, he’ll be licking his lips thinking; ‘If I can get some of those crosses that he puts in, I’m going to get a few goals’.

“I’d be delighted with (Porro). The right-side has struggled in recent years. Hopefully we can get that one over the line.”

Porro, capped once by Spain, bid farewell to the 2021 Portuguese champions over the weekend (AS). Tottenham are yet to officially confirm his arrival. Though there should not be any late drama with Sky Sports insisting that Sporting’s £39 million price-tag is no longer an obstacle.

“(Porro) will be missed by Sporting,” points out former Los Leoes ace Delfim Teixeira. “I don’t see any other attitude in a professional like his.”

Porro should join Arnaut Danjuma at Spurs

An attack-minded right-wing-back, Porro looks tailor-made for Antonio Conte’s 3-4-2-1 formation.

It is not yet certain what his arrival means for Emerson or, perhaps more pertinently, an out-of-favour Doherty. The ex-Wolves favourite finding game time increasingly hard to come by of late, even if he did start Saturday’s FA Cup fourth-round win away at Preston North End.

Arnaut Danjuma marked his Spurs debut with a goal at Deepdale. Tottenham fought off competition to sign the Villarreal loanee last week.

“It depends on the system. (Danjuma) could be a ‘number 10’ or a striker,” says Spurs coach Cristian Stellini (Football London). “This is the way we want to work with him. We need the players to add to our rotation. It’s good to have him.”
