Clinton Morrison says it’s a ‘huge blow’ for Paul Heckingbottom’s Sheffield United if they lose Sander Berge late on during the January transfer window amid interest from the likes of Newcastle United and Liverpool.
The former Crystal Palace striker labelled Berge a ‘superb’ player, with several Premier League clubs hoping to conclude a possible deadline-day transfer deal for the 24-year-old.
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United have joined Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Graham Potter’s Chelsea in the transfer race for Berge, as they consider a move for the Norway international.

What perhaps suggests that Berge could be on the move before Tuesday’s cut-off point is the fact that he was left out of Sheffield United’s matchday squad that recorded an entertaining draw against non-league Wrexham in the FA Cup on Sunday.
A strong Sheffield United team was put out there by Paul Heckingbottom, so with Berge not even in the squad, then surely it suggests that something could be on the cards during the next 24 hours.
Given how strong the Blades are going in their automatic push for promotion in the Championship, Morrison can’t see the midfielder’s possible exit having any effect on that, but nonetheless, his possible departure would still be a blow, as he told Sky Sports News (29/01/23).
“If they were to lose Sander Berge, then it would be a huge blow, but they do have players,” said Morrison. “They can still get promoted, but it’s a big loss because he is a superb player.
“He is a big player for them in that midfield. He can score goals. Drives with the ball well. He carries it well, so it would be a big loss if they do lose him.
“If they do lose him, then it will be hard to bring someone in, so they will be trying to do work as well.”

BERGE IN AND SHELVEY OUT?
For Liverpool, even though it’s all doom and gloom for them, it still doesn’t look like Jurgen Klopp is going to be backed during the final hours of the winter transfer window.
That’s probably not good news for Liverpool fans, but it is for those in Newcastle.
It just increases their chances of signing Berge, especially with Jono Shelvey being close to signing for Nottingham Forest.
