Sun reporter Alan Nixon has told his Patreon channel that Sunderland are ‘trying’ to complete a deal to sign Everton talent Joe Anderson for a ‘bargain’ fee – with Anderson unlikely to break into Everton’s first team despite their form.
Left-footed ace Anderson, 21, joined Everton in the summer of 2016 from bitter rivals Liverpool – in his early teens. He has since become a regular for the club’s U18 and U21 sides – playing more than 100 times at that level, 62 for the 21’s.
But, he has failed to earn a senior debut. This season, he has played in 17 of Everton U21’s 20 games – captaining the second string three times. This month, Anderson has entered the final 18 months of his current deal at Goodison Park.
Sunderland have signed a number of young players from Premier League sides. Amad Diallo, Jack Clarke and more recently, Pierre Ekwah. Now, they look set to do the same with Anderson – with the Black Cats set to lose Bailey Wright.

The Aussie defender is a target for Hibernian and Portsmouth before the deadline. Sunderland are trying to sign the Everton star as a replacement – with a ‘bargain’ permanent fee on the cards. He is unlikely to make it at Everton.
Nixon: Sunderland trying to complete deal for Everton talent Anderson
Sunderland have found success in bringing in young players from Premier League clubs. Clarke has been excellent for the Black Cats, scoring against Fulham on Saturday in the FA Cup. Diallo is on loan but has been superb since joining.
Daniel Ballard looks solid in the middle of the defence and Aji Alese has also come in, like Ekwah, from West Ham. Now, the next one to come in from a Premier League club is Anderson. His form in PL2 certainly makes him a talent.
