Todd Cantwell could make his Rangers debut this weekend as Michael Beale’s side welcome St. Johnstone to Ibrox on Saturday afternoon – and Beale has used one word to describe the playmaker’s form in training: “excellent”.
Cantwell, 25, joined Rangers on a long-term deal earlier this month from Norwich City. He is now awaiting his first chance to represent the Gers, with Saturday’s home League game against St. Johnstone being his first opportunity.
The Gers have a number of options in attacking midfield. Ryan Kent, Scott Arfield, Malik Tillman, Scott Wright, Fashion Sakala, Alex Lowry and more – with Kemar Roofe and Tom Lawrence injured. Cantwell joins that long list.
Beale was asked about Cantwell and how his first signing as Rangers manager has settled in. He says that Cantwell has been “excellent” in training ahead of Saturday’s outing. Beale also described Cantwell as a “fantastic player”.
“We’ve got a fantastic player in this week in Todd Cantwell, he has looked excellent in training,” Rangers boss Beale told Friday’s press conference ahead of the return to Premiership action this weekend, against St. Johnstone.

Beale uses one word to describe Cantwell form in Rangers training
Cantwell is a wonderful signing. With his Norwich deal expiring at the end of the season at Carrow Road, Cantwell has joined Rangers for a bargain fee believed to be just £1.5million. He is a sensational addition for the club.
Where he fits in, is another question. Ryan Kent is a mainstay on the left, Malik Tillman has been excellent in the 10 role and Fashion Sakala has arguably been Beale’s best player since he returned to the club, on the right flank.
So, it might take a few weeks for Cantwell to break into the side on a regular basis. But, his quality is undeniable so when he does get his chance, you would fully expect Cantwell to keep his place moving forward at Rangers.
