The Athletic’s David Ornstein has reported that Sporting CP have ‘enquired’ about signing Brighton right-back Tariq Lamptey on loan as a replacement for Tottenham Hotspur-bound Pedro Porro.

Sporting want to sign Lamptey on loan as Porro successor

The report states that Porro is considered a ‘key player’ at Sporting, which is why the club have decided to contact Lamptey to potentially come in as a successor for him this month on loan.

The Portuguese club are assessing options in the market for new right-backs, as the Spanish sensation, who scouts believe could develop into a ‘very special’ player, according to Graeme Bailey on the Talking Transfers podcast.

For those that are unaware, the £3 million man (Football.London), described as ‘amazing’ by Neil Maupay (via Ghana Web) is prepared to depart the Amex Arena in the final days of the January transfer window.

Under Roberto De Zerbi, the youngster has not started a single Premier League game, which points to why he is open to an exit.

It seems like only a matter of time before Pedro Porro starts playing his football at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, as mentioned earlier, his current employers are on the lookout for a replacement for him in the winter market.

As seen with several deals in the past, things suddenly break down when the selling club is unable to replace the player they seem set to let go.

Keeping that in mind, if a loan deal for Brighton starlet Tariq Lamptey seems set to get over the line, Sporting CP will feel at ease over their decision to sell Pedro Porro.

And in this way, Tottenham Hotspur will finally be able to land their dream right wing-back target in January.
