Tottenham may still be in the market for Nicolo Zaniolo despite the recent signing of Arnaut Danjuma. This is according to Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth who was speaking on Last Word on Spurs.

The 23-year-old Italian midfielder has been told he can leave Roma and has, according to Alfredo Pedulla, been training on his own recently. AC Milan are also believed to be interested in the player, as per Di Marzio.

Milan would give the ‘sharp‘ player the chance to stay in Italy, but according to Fabrizio Romano, the player’s dream is to play in the Premier League.

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte and Sporting Director Fabio Paratici will certainly be  familiar with Zaniolo from their time in Serie A, and this is a deal that has been touted for around 12 months now.

Zaniolo could still sign

Sheth shared what he knows about this situation.

“I think that Tottenham would be in the market for him. I’m don’t think, from the information I have, that it was one or the other. I defer to my colleague Gianluca Di Marzio, and it seemed like Spurs wanted to do a deal where it was a loan with an option or an obligation, whereas Roma wanted it to be a big-money departure on a permanent deal rather than just losing him late in the window,” Sheth said.

Where does he fit?

It’s all well and good signing Zaniolo as well as Danjuma, but do Spurs really need him?

It’s difficult to figure out where Zaniolo would fit into this team, especially after Danjuma’s signing on loan from Villarreal.

Danjuma’s arrival would indicat that Conte plans on sticking with his 3-4-3 formation rather than switching to his patented 3-4-1-2, and, in turn, that leaves little room for a player like Zaniolo.

It is still unclear if Tottenham will be able to land Zaniolo, but it is clear that the club is still looking to strengthen the squad before the close of play in the January transfer window.

Spurs remain a club to keep an eye on this month.
