Speaking on The Done Deal Show, CBS journalist, Ben Jacobs, has stated that Liverpool may be dropping out of the race for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo due to his inflated pricetag.
Liverpool have been in the market for a midfielder as they have not had a good season from the likes of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson. However, they have also been linked to Matheus Nunes who may be available for a more modest fee, while they’re also keen on Jude Bellingham who would probably be a much more expensive option.
Brighton’s asking price for Caicedo is reportedly more than £75m, which is a steep price for Liverpool who believe that even £65m is too high for the player. This puts Chelsea and Arsenal as the front runners for the player’s signature amid links to both clubs.

Liverpool out of the equation
Jacobs spoke about the race for Caicedo.
“Is it going to be Chelsea or is it going to be Arsenal? With Arsenal they have to meet the valuation, and everyone connected to the deal is saying the same thing. That even £75m+ is crazy money. When everyone connected to the deal, the player’s side, the agent’s side, the buyer’s side, the seller’s side and clubs circling. Liverpool are not in the conversation because they even think that £65m is far too high,” Jacobs said.
Too expensive
Caicedo has been having a brilliant season, but with Liverpool’s financial constraints, it seems like they will not be able to match the asking price for the player.
It’s frustrating, but given that the Reds spent a club-record fee on Darwin Nunez in the summer and almost £40m on Cody Gakpo this month, it’s easy to see why they may not be willing to fork out massive money for Caicedo.
The Ecuadorian is a quality player, but with Nunes and Bellingham seemingly on the agenda, Liverpool do have other options that they may well be prioritising.
It remains to be seen where the young midfielder will end up, but it looks like the race is between Chelsea and Arsenal at this juncture.
