With one week of the window still remaining, it seems that Celtic are bringing an end to their long-running striker search with days to spare.

After reported interest in the likes of Casper Tengstedt, Kevin Nisbet, Said Hamulic and Hyeon-Gyu’s South Korea team-mate Cho Gue-Sung, the Hoops are on the verge of landing a 6ft 1ins centre-forward who found the net 14 times in the K-League last season.

Oh Hyeon-Gyu, Sky Sports say, will set Celtic back around £2.5 million.

The 21-year-old is currently in Glasgow, has already met Ange Postecoglou and his prospective new team-mates, and could be confirmed before this weekend’s trip to Dundee United (Daily Record).

Celtic are close to signing South Korea striker Oh Hyeon-Gyu

“We have reached an agreement on the transfer of Oh Hyeon-Gyu with Celtic. It is at the stage where only the official announcement is left. We are discussing it,” says an official speaking on behalf of Suwon Bluewings.

“We will prepare a suitable recruitment so that Oh Hyeon-Gyu’s absence is not felt.”

News1 believe that Oh Hyeon-Gyu has already undergone medical tests, while working towards obtaining the relevant work-permit. The youngster’s arrival may also free up Giorgios Giakoumakis to depart; the American MLS seemingly the most likely destination for Celtic’s Greek international supersub.

“The reports are true,” Hyeon-Gyu said a couple of weeks ago. “It is not common to receive offers from European clubs. And Celtic, a prestigious club, gave me a good offer. So I have a strong desire to take on this opportunity.

“When I heard that the club had an offer, I said I wanted to go. “(I said) this was my dream. It is the moment I have dreamed of since I was young. So, when the offer came, I had a strong desire to take on the challenge as soon as possible.”
