According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are keen on Yves Bissouma and they’ve discussed the idea of a part-exchange deal including Hakim Ziyech to get a deal done.

Spurs have been unreceptive to this idea, and it’s not hard to understand why. Spurs don’t need a player like Ziyech right now, and he’s been out of form for a long time in any case.

However, that isn’t to say that a deal can’t be done. Chelsea have a number of players at their club who could be used as a makeweight in this transfer.

Spurs could go back to the table with a counter-offer, and in our view, there’s one player, in particular, they should be looking at from the Blues.

Perhaps surprisingly, we’re talking about Cesar Azpilicueta.

The Chelsea captain would give Spurs exactly what they need right now. The north London club need defensive reinforcements as they continue to leak goals, and as Conte said this week, he needs experienced players in his team.

Premier League players don’t come more experienced than Azpilicueta, and he’d slot into this team with ease too. After all, he won a league title under Conte back in the 2016/17 season.

There is a deal to be done with Chelsea here, and an Azpilicueta-plus-cash deal for Bissouma is something Spurs should bring to the table as a potential discussion point.

Of course, Chelsea could laugh them out of town. After all, the Spaniard is their captain and still an important player, but given the amount that Chelsea have spent on new defenders over the past year, the Spaniard’s Stamford Bridge career could be winding down anyway.

Azpilicueta is exactly the type of player Conte needs at Spurs, an experienced leader in the backline who knows how to win, and if there’s a chance to get him in, Tottenham should be looking at it.
