AC Milan have reportedly made contact to sign AS Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo despite rumours that the Italian international is nearing an agreement to join Tottenham.
According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the reigning Serie A champions have made an approach to Zaniolo’s entourage to convince the attacker to sign for Milan, with 90min reporting this week that Tottenham are close to signing the 23-year-old after talks with Roma.
Lauded as ‘extraordinary’ by Jose Mourinho, Zaniolo’s future has been a major talking point in the Italian media in recent days as the youngster looks as likely as ever to leave Roma after consistent links of a move to the Premier League.
However, despite Tottenham currently leading the race to sign Zaniolo, Milan have seemingly entered the competition at the eleventh hour, with Spurs’ upcoming UEFA Champions League rivals now making contact with the attacker’s team over a potential move.

Indeed, Milan signing Zaniolo would be quite the coup for the Rossoneri given just how certain Tottenham have looked in recent days in winning the forward’s signature, with the north London club now seemingly in the dark over what is actually happening in regards to the Roma star.
Whilst Tottenham have the financial capacity to beat Milan to Zaniolo, the sporting appeal of playing for the San Siro side could be more tempting for the attacker given how unlikely it is that Spurs will both win silverware of finish in the Premier League top-four this season.
Zaniolo will be wise to sign for Milan over Tottenham this January

The Premier League is the most appealing division for any top European talent, yet in Zaniolo’s case, the Italian international could be better off remaining in his homeland and instead signing for Milan, with Tottenham’s current situation that could be a poor fit for the youngster.
As we know, Antonio Conte’s future remains up in the air alongside Harry Kane’s, and with the duo primed to leave Tottenham in the summer, Zaniolo would be wise to instead sign for Milan where the reigning Italian giants have a project in mind and a plan in place for the coming years.
