Oleksandr Zinchenko has shared that when he put it forward to his Arsenal teammates that they should forget about third spot, but push for the Premier League title, ‘some of them were laughing’.

Mikel Arteta’s side finished outside of the Champions League places last season after they collapsed during the final months of the campaign.

That’s when the London club turned to Manchester City and brought in duo Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus.

They had won four Premier League titles at the Etihad, including under the stewardship of Arteta when he was a coach under Pep Guardiola.

Well, Zinchenko has made a world of difference since his £32 million switch (Sky Sports), and it’s not just on the field of play that he is doing the talking.

The Ukraine star shared that he already knew about Arsenal’s ‘quality’ before he arrived and he shared what he told his teammates early doors, as he told Premier League Productions (22/01/23 at 6:55 pm).

“To be honest, when I just arrived, the quality I saw, obviously I knew the Arsenal team and I knew all of them before,” said Zinchenko.

“But still I realised on the pitch that we have everything to achieve the big things. I started to speak in the dressing room like ‘guys forget top three or whatever it is, we need to think about the title’.

“Some of them were laughing, but no-one is laughing now and all of us are dreaming. But still, there are a lot of games to play. Man United is back. And Man City is always there.”

This has been one of Arsenal’s best signings in many years, and in recent times, they have made many of them.

Whilst transfers such as Aaron Ramsdale and Ben White were questioned by some when they first arrived, the capture of Zinchenko was applauded from the get-go.

He has been transformative to this very young Arsenal side, both in terms of his ability to control games from left-back and the change of mindset he has brought to the table.
