Arsenal and Newcastle United are both interested in Amadou Onana as they position themselves to rival Chelsea for the Everton midfielder.

That’s according to Belgian transfer reporter Sacha Tavolieri, who has taken to Twitter to make claims about Onana’s future.

Tavolieri claims that an exit for Onana was ‘initially unthinkable’ but the exit of Frank Lampard on Monday and Everton’s financial situation means a deal could be done.

Tavolieri states that Chelsea have made their interest in Onana clear but so have Premier League rivals Arsenal and Newcastle United.

A deal this month would still be a surprise given that Onana only joined Everton from Lille for £33million over the summer.

Yet maybe Onana feels that he can make a huge step up and with Lampard gone, the prospect of moving on may be very attractive.

Amadou Onana has potential to be an Arsenal star

Arsenal would like to sign a player to serve as cover and competition for Thomas Partey in the holding role in front of Mikel Arteta’s back four.

West Ham United star Declan Rice has been heavily linked of late and could be a prime target for the summer.

Yet if Arsenal want somebody right now – and their chance at the Premier League title may mean they do – then Onana could be their man.

Onana is only 21 and would probably admit himself that he is a little raw at this stage in his development.

A giant presence at 6ft 4in tall, Onana has so much athletic ability and has been making rapid progress in recent times.

Onana quickly went from Hoffenheim’s second team to a huge Everton move, with brief spells at Hamburg and Lille in between.

Hailed as ‘such a leader’ by Jamie Redknapp, The Athletic reported that Arsenal and Newcastle both wanted Onana over the summer.

If there is any indication that Onana is ready to move right now when maybe Arsenal or Newcastle can actually secure a deal this time around.

Onana isn’t the finished product but his enormous potential will make him very appealing just months after Everton pulled off a huge coup.
