Newcastle United now have an offer ready to sign Hakim Ziyech on loan from Chelsea. The winger will leave Stamford Bridge after the transfer of Nodi Madueke from PSV Eindhoven.
That is according to Dean Jones, who reports that Graham Potter’s move for Madueke will spark Ziyech’s exit from west London. The 20-year-old has moved to the Premier League in a £30m deal as their sixth mid-season signing. He also agreed to a contract until June 2030.
Madueke’s move from PSV will now force Ziyech out of Stamford Bridge in the final days of the January window. Potter has seldom shown any faith in the Moroccan since he replaced Thomas Tuchel in charge. Ziyech has only started two of his seven top-flight fixtures so far.
Potter has further only played the 29-year-old for a total of 218 minutes after a further five Premier League cameos. But he saw Ziyech record the 50-cap ace’s first assist of his tenure to beat Crystal Palace 1-0 last Sunday. Kai Havertz headed home from the winger’s corner.
Newcastle are on high alert to the situation at Chelsea following Madueke’s arrival as they seek Ziyech’s transfer. Toon coach Eddie Howe is now ready to submit an offer to hire him on loan in January. The Magpies are primed to table their proposal after Madueke’s move.
Newcastle do not have a clear path to agree to a transfer for Ziyech with Chelsea
Howe has been studying a transfer from Chelsea to Newcastle for Ziyech over the past few weeks. The Telegraph recently listed the £100k-a-week maestro among the Magpies’ mid-season targets. 90min also notes the Toon have spoken with his agent over a possible deal.
Ziyech’s representatives have sought to sound out interest in the £33.5m former Ajax star this month. They contacted Newcastle to discuss a transfer, to which the Toon responded positively. But Sport also now reports that the forward wants to seal a move to Barcelona.
Xavi has just sold Memphis Depay to Atletico Madrid for €3m (£2.5m), plus €1m (£875k) in add-ons. So, Ziyech has offered himself to Barcelona, which may prove to be a problem for Howe as Newcastle target a loan transfer for a Chelsea star who Alan Shearer has praised.
“He did exceptionally well,” Shearer said, via football.london, after Ziyech shone at Burnley in November 2020. “I thought he was the best player for Chelsea today. He was creating, he was scoring [and] he was just a constant threat all afternoon.
“He just sends [Nick] Pope the wrong way. Did have to do his bit of defensive work and did that very well. He was given a bit of freedom. If he wants to have a roam, he can do that because [N’Golo] Kante is there if he does lose the ball and he was a constant.”
