Celtic midfielder David Turnbull blew Leanne Crichton away with his performance at home to Greenock Morton. The Hoops star scored once during his team’s 5-0 Scottish Cup win.
Aaron Mooy (18’, 84’), Kyogo Furuhashi (21’, 45+1’) and Turnbull (42’) all hit home against the Championship side on Saturday. But Mooy broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in controversial circumstances after the VAR adjudged Efe Ambrose to have handled the ball.
The spot-kick gave the Hoops the momentum and Furuhashi swiftly doubled their lead. He would also strike again after Turnbull turned the ball home with a tidy finish. It was the 23-year-old midfielder’s fourth goal of the season so far in 25 appearances in all competitions.

Three of Turnbull’s goals have come during Celtic’s Premiership fixtures, along with four of his five assists. But Ange Postecoglou has only started the five-cap Scotland ace in six of his 17 league outings. He also did not start any of his five Champions League Group F ties.
Turnbull showed Postecoglou what he can offer on Saturday after helping Celtic put the tie to bed before the break. The Wishaw-born star also forced another strong save from Brian Schwake. Otherwise, he would have left the field in the 77th minute having struck a brace.

Turnbull blew Crichton away after scoring as Celtic beat Greenock Morton 5-0
Morton initially frustrated Turnbull in the opening exchanges but the Celtic star responded in brilliant fashion. He picked out the bottom corner of Schwake’s net from 20 yards on the cusp of half-time. It was his second goal in as many fixtures after netting against St Mirren.
Turnbull’s goal, which gave Celtic a 3-0 lead against Morton during their 5-0 win, capped a performance that blew Crichton away. The former Scotland international adored the skill that the Motherwell product showed for his 23rd career goal for the Hoops in 102 outings.
“He makes it look so easy,” Crichton enthused on BBC Sportscene. “He’s a tremendous footballer, David Turnbull. It comes from [Liel] Abada down that right-hand side. Kyogo drags defenders towards him. What a brilliant finish it is. I think that might be curtains.”
