Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery is now ready to sell Calum Chambers just one year after his transfer from Arsenal. Steven Gerrard signed the centre-half in the last January market.
That is according to the Mirror, which reports Emery is ready to give Chambers the boot to overhaul the Aston Villa team. It would be the second time that the Spaniard has offloaded the 28-year-old, as well. He loaned the defender to Fulham while in charge of the Gunners.
Emery has marked an array of players surplus to requirements at Villa Park in a bid to clear their deadwood. The Birmingham outfit have already now sold Danny Ings with West Ham United paying £12m, rising to £15m after add-ons. He moves on a contract until June 2025.

But Emery has also confirmed that Morgan Sanson and Marvelous Nakamba can now leave Aston Villa. He has also given Sevilla loanee Ludwig Augustinsson and Southampton loanee Jan Bednarek permission to leave. Now, Chambers’ name is on the Villans’ chopping block.
Gerrard convinced Chambers of a transfer from Arsenal to Aston Villa in the January 2022 window. The Gunners also let the three-cap England international leave for free as he was out of contract in the summer. He signed a £50k-a-week deal until June 2025 at Villa Park.

Emery is now ready to axe Chambers one year after his transfer to Aston Villa
But Emery is now ready to axe Chambers just one year after his transfer to Aston Villa. The Petersfield-born centre-back has struggled to establish himself since the Spaniard replaced Gerrard. He has only featured once and for just eight minutes in the Premier League so far.
Chambers came off their bench to help the Villans see out a 2-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur on New Year’s Day. He has otherwise been an unused substitute under Emery in top-flight games. He did start in EFL Cup and FA Cup defeats to Manchester United and Stevenage.
Gerrard also seldom favoured Chambers before Aston Villa sacked the England icon back in October. Despite calling the defender ‘absolutely class’ last season, he only used Chambers in two Premier League games this campaign. He only started against West Ham in August.
