Kyogo Furuhashi’s ‘incredible’ lob earned the Japan international praise from St Mirren manager Steve Robinson after Scottish Premiership champions Celtic cruised to a 4-0 victory at Parkhead on Wednesday night, via The Herald.
It was a goal made in Asia, scored in Glasgow.
Reo Hatate picked up possession in one of those trademark little pockets before feeding a probing through-ball in behind the St Mirren defence. But if Hatate was supplying the ingredients, it was still up to Kyogo to produce a finish of Michelin star standards.

And that he did; an instinctive, ingenious chip leaving Trevor Carson grasping helplessly a thin air. The Celtic crowd united in their undying admiration of Ange Postecoglou’s very own Asian sensation.
“The second goal is an incredible finish,” sighs Robinson. “Sometimes, you have to hold your hands up. A wonderful goal.
“On the night, I thought Celtic were excellent. Their movement was very, very good.”
Celtic hammer St Mirren with Kyogo Furuhashi scoring twice
Kyogo wasn’t done their either. His second of the night – a far simpler finish, tapped home from a surgical Jota cross – took the striker’s tally to 17 in just 20 Premiership appearances. 18 in all competitions.
The £4.5 million signing is now just two short of his total from the entire 2021/22 campaign.
“We scored some really nice goals and credit to the lads. It was a strong, disciplined performance,” Postecoglou tells Celtic TV; the reigning champions maintaining their nine point advantage over Old Firm rivals Rangers.
“Kyogo’s quality of finishing has always been there. And they were two trademark Kyogo goals.”
Furuhashi’s latest Hoops brace came after Liel Abada had given the dominant hosts a 15th minute lead, lashing a volley into the net following a goalmouth scramble. There was also a confidence-boosting strike from David Turnbull late on. His 25-yard screamer slathering the icing on top of a very tasty cake.
And if Kyogo’s two goals were ‘trademark’ finishes from Celtic’s number eight, then you could definitely say the same of Turnbull’s first since November. Drilled home with pace and panache from distance; Turnbull’s calling card.
Rangers, meanwhile, survived a scare to beat Kilmarnock 3-2 at Rugby Park. Alfredo Morelos marked a return to form with two goals in Ayrshire.
