Rangers are close to signing Todd Cantwell with the playmaker allegedly saying goodbye to his Norwich City teammates earlier today.

That’s according to Football Scotland, who claim that Rangers have won the race to sign Cantwell.

It’s stated that Cantwell is ‘on the verge’ of signing for Rangers and said his goodbyes to Norwich this morning as he heads to Glasgow.

Cantwell will allegedly undergo a medical with Rangers this weekend as he puts the finishing touches to his move.

It’s noted that Cantwell had other options on the table with Dutch side PSV Eindhoven understood to be interested.

Blackburn Rovers were also keen but Cantwell has picked Rangers as Michael Beale closes in on his first signing as Gers boss.

Beating PSV to Todd Cantwell is a coup for Rangers

Cantwell’s recent struggles have been well-documented.

The 24-year-old looked like becoming a star when he showed major promise for Norwich City in the Premier League.

Yet after a difficult 2021-22 campaign, this term hasn’t been much better.

Cantwell went the whole of 2022 without managing a goal or assist in the Championship with Norwich and Bournemouth.

A player once wanted by the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United now needs to get his career back on track.

Beale is clearly a big fan having called Cantwell a ‘fantastic player’ and the Gers will hope to see him back to his best.

PSV wanting to sign Cantwell just goes to show how highly rated Cantwell still is, and a move to the Netherlands could have been hugely appealing.

Cantwell has so much talent in his locker and a fresh start could help him shine again; that’s what PSV were thinking too.

Rangers appear to have pulled off a deal though and will be looking for Cantwell to provide a real creative spark in the final third.
