Back in December 2020, Carlo Ancelotti hailed Everton No.9 Dominic Calvert-Lewin by dubbing him as a ‘complete striker’, who has now been linked with a move to Newcastle United.

Eddie Howe’s side could bid as much as £35 million to land the Everton goalscorer, as per the Sun.

Interestingly, the Magpies also consider the 25-year-old as their primary attacking target, and have been interested in signing him since last summer.

Well, it makes complete sense from a Newcastle standpoint, going by just how highly Carlo Ancelotti used to rate Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Admittedly, it is slightly confusing why the currently 3rd placed side in the Premier League would target the England international.

Howe and Co. have both Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak within their ranks.

While the latter has been injured for much of his spell at St. James’ Park, he has looked the part so far.

As for Wilson, he is once again having a top-drawer campaign.

While Chris Wood seems to be heading to Nottingham Forest, one questions why the club are reportedly targeting Calvert-Lewin.

Well, one reason for Newcastle could well be to unearth his potential, as the one and only Carlo Ancelotti is such a huge admirer of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

In December 2020, Carlo Ancelotti, who was managing Everton at the time lavished praise on to Newcastle-linked hitman Dominic Calvert-Lewin for being such a class No.9.

“He [Dominic Calvert-Lewin] is a complete striker. It is not easy to find a striker with these characteristics.”

“He has a lot of energy, he is fast. I am really pleased he is doing well and scoring goals because at the end, a striker is judged on the goals he scores”, the Real Madrid boss was quoted saying by Sky Sports.

If Dominic Calvert-Lewin is rated by Carlo Ancelotti, we’re sure Eddie Howe would do the same at Newcastle.
