Jose Enrique has made the bold claim that he would rather start Harvey Elliott instead of Mohamed Salah as Liverpool face Chelsea on Saturday.

The £46,000-a-week ace dubbed as ‘outstanding’ by Alan Shearer against Wolves in the FA Cup 3rd Round replay scored a thunderous winner in the 13th minute, while operating in his natural right-wing position where he thrived.

As Harvey Elliott impressed against Julen Lopetegui’s side, Jose Enrique has gone as far as to say that he would rather start the youngster instead of Mohamed Salah against Chelsea.

The Egyptian forward is not having his finest season to say the least.

After penning a brand-new contract in the summer, it seemed as if the club legend was ready to leave all the clamour around his future behind him to make more history at Anfield.

However, with a mere 7 Premier League goals and underwhelming displays for Jurgen Klopp’s side, the 30-year-old is undergoing a quite disappointing season.

Even so, it is a hot take from Jose Enrique to want Mohamed Salah benched for Harvey Elliott against Chelsea.

While the Blues have been unimpressive to say the least under Graham Potter, the contest between the two Premier League powerhouses still remains a huge game, and as a result, would require Klopp to field his big-hitters.

Jose Enrique replied to a fan on Twitter who suggested that he would rather see Harvey Elliott start on the right wing instead of Mohamed Salah against Chelsea by saying, “I will do as well.”

In Salah’s defence, while he hasn’t been at his brilliant best, the same can be said for most of his teammates.

And to be fair, the Liverpool icon does deserve another chance to showcase his class against Chelsea, even if he is out of form, as the best players have a tendency to rise to the big occasions.
