What happened on Match of the Day? Who pranked Gary Lineker? Many have been asking after the FA Cup tie between Liverpool and Wolves was hijacked.
During the 15-minute buildup before the FA Cup 3rd round replay, Lineker, Danny Murphy and Paul Ince saw their analysis ruined by loud moaning coming from inside the studio, as somebody pranked the trio with recorded sex noises.
Alan Shearer then joked live on commentary duty that it was Murphy’s phone going off.
So, what happened on Match of the Day? And who pranked Lineker? Let’s take a look…
What happened on BBC Match of the Day?
Well, as mentioned above, the BBC Match of the Day studio was taken over by the now infamous moaning noise, which has surely tripped one or two of you up while in a busy waiting room or on a train.
It is usually edited over a video containing an intriguing caption, such as “I cannot believe Harry Kane said this” before unfortunate viewers end up hearing audible moaning instead – it is this generation’s idea of Rick Rolling.

The noise came and went throughout the 15-minute coverage, before stopping completely when Wolves and Liverpool kicked off at Molineux, with many wondering what they had just witnessed.
Who pranked Gary Lineker?
Lineker revealed just three minutes into the FA Cup 3rd round replay that the noises were coming from an old mobile phone taped to the back of the Match of the Day set.
As detailed by Sky News, YouTube prankster Daniel Jarvis has claimed to be responsible for the incident, which led the BBC to issue an official apology.
Lineker did exceptionally well to keep his composure during the prank, continuing to get the thoughts of Ince and Murphy, while also stating that “Harvey Elliott’s goal was a screamer, which was not the only one we’ve had tonight.”
Sky News add that the BBC are continuing to investigate the incident, and it remains to be seen if Jarvis truly was behind the prank which shocked thousands watching Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Wolves.
