Mexican outfit Club America would ‘love’ for Wolves striker Raul Jimenez to return when his time in the Premier League comes to an end, president Santiago Banos tells Fox Sports

With so many new faces arriving at Molineux – Matheus Cunha, Mario Lemina and Pablo Sarabia in, while Joao Gomes and Craig Dawson are potentially set to follow – some high-profile departures are the inevitable by-product of a squad overhaul.

Less than three years ago, Wolves finished seventh in the Premier League while reaching the quarter-finals of the Europa League. Conor Coady, Romain Saiss, Leander Dendoncker, Rui Patricio, Wily Boly and Diogo Jota have all gone their separate ways since those heady days, while Adama Traore and Joao Moutinho are due to become free-agents in a matter of months.

There is also speculation suggesting that Jimenez – a bonafide, modern era Wolves legend – could soon be packing his bags following the £42 million club-record arrival of Cunha from Atletico Madrid.

Raul Jimenez could leave Wolves and return to Mexico

Mexican publication W Deportes believe that clubs on the other side of the Atlantic are already queuing up for Jimenez. And you can expect Club America – who handed Jimenez his senior debut a decade ago – to be among them.

“The doors are open,” Banos says. “I think Raul has also expressed his desire to return at some point on several occasions. The doors are open. This is his home.

“We would love for him to return one day. Hopefully, it will be sooner rather than later. What better than (seeing) someone who already has a path in Europe come back and finish his career. One day, he does want to return.”

Jimenez, two caps shy of a century in Mexico’s El Tri shirt, left Club America for an ill-fated stint with Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid back in 2014. A prolific spell at Benfica, however, paved the way for a £30 million move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Jimenez’s Molineux contract expires in just 18 months’ time, while he will celebrate his 32nd birthday in May.
