Tottenham have reportedly had an offer rejected from FC Barcelona to sign superstar midfielder Franck Kessie, with the Ivorian international not keen on moving to north London.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the former AC Milan dynamo has turned down an approach from Tottenham with Kessie eager to return to Italy just six months after signing for Barcelona in the summer, with Inter Milan the current favourites for the midfielder.

Available at just £20m according to Sport, Kessie has made just five starts for Barcelona since joining the club for free last year. And given the Catalan giants’ financial situation, it makes sense why the La Liga side are open to selling the 26-year-old already.

However, Tottenham won’t be the side that win the race to sign Kessie, with Antonio Conte’s side being flat-out rejected by both Barcelona and the player himself as a return to Italy now looks nailed-on for the 60-cap Ivory Coast international.

Indeed, with Spurs looking to sign a central midfielder this January and Kessie being linked with the Premier League side for quite some time, now would have been the perfect time for a transfer to finally happen. Though the player himself seems to have dreams of a move elsewhere.

With just two weeks of the transfer window remaining, time is running out for Tottenham to make a midfield signing that could be the difference between another top-four finish or a return to the UEFA Europa League. And Kessie would have been perfect for the north London side this month.

Tottenham missing out on Kessie signing will infuriate Conte

Conte has demanded signings this January, and 17 days into the window, the Italian manager is still waiting for anything that could help Tottenham get out of their current rut of bad form, with this latest Kessie update only going to infuriate the former Inter boss more.

After all, Conte is a manager who deserves to be backed by the Tottenham board. And with Spurs coming up short on a deal to sign Kessie, this news could anger the former Inter and Chelsea manager for the remainder of the month, with the Ivorian now set to join another club.
