Everton want Moussa Dembele and are ready to bring forward their plans to sign the Lyon striker as they chase a new goalscorer.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who claim that Everton were planning to wait until the summer to make a move to sign Dembele.

Yet Everton are now tempted to make an offer right now as they try to lure Dembele to Goodison Park.

Dembele is out of contract at the end of the season and would have been a very appealing signing on a free transfer.

Everton need goals right now though and they could move to sign Dembele to solve their goalscoring problems.

There is also the very real prospect of Everton suffering relegation and not being in a position to Dembele for free in the summer.

Dembele, 26, represents the kind of signing Everton fans are seeking.

The Frenchman has been a pretty prolific goalscorer throughout his career.

19 goals in 64 games for Fulham was a promising start to his career before Dembele really exploded at Celtic.

Dembele smashed 51 goals in 94 games for Celtic and earned himself a big 2018 move to Lyon off the back of his exploits in Glasgow.

Dembele may only have two goals this season but he racked up 22 goals in all competitions for Lyon last season, showing off his goalscoring talents.

The time has come for Dembele to leave Lyon and given that he could leave for free in the summer, Everton could find themselves a real bargain.

Everton need to bring in a proven goalscorer but there is a fine line here; sinking money into Michail Antonio, who turns 33 soon enough, just doesn’t make sense.

Dembele’s age and availability make him ideal for Everton and Toffees fans would surely love to see this move come off in January.

Celtic fans may be wondering about a sell-on clause having sold Dembele some four-and-a-half years ago.

However, Celtic’s sell-on clause only applies to profit Lyon make on the £20million they paid for Dembele.

Everton won’t be paying above £20million with Dembele in the final stages of his contract, meaning Celtic’s clause is pretty much worthless at this point.
