Orlando City winger Facundo Torres has told 90min that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal want to sign him in the January transfer window.

And the Uruguay international has suggested that he would be open to a move to the Gunners this month.

In an interview with 90min, Torres has said that his Major League Soccer club City told him that Arsenal had been in contact with them over a possible move in January.

Arsenal made the move for the winger before the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

According to 90min, the Gunners want to sign the 22-year-old as a back-up to Bukayo Saka.

Facundo Torres claims Arsenal interest

Torres said: “Orlando City confirmed to me that there was contact with Arsenal, but then I left for the World Cup and I didn’t want to hear about a potential transfer at that point.

“So the conversation stayed there but now that I am back with the team, we will see where the conversation goes.”

The winger added: “I would love to play in Europe. It’s a dream I’ve had since I was a kid. At the moment I am focused on Orlando City.

“But La Liga or Premier League would be my targets, and that’s where the rumors are coming from. But yeah, I would absolutely love that.”

Could a January transfer happen?

In our view, Arsenal could be able to sign Facundo Torres from Orlando City in the January transfer window.

That the Gunners actually made contact with City shows how serious they are about the Uruguay international winger.

And with the youngster himself openly saying that Arsenal want him and expressing his willingness to move to the Emirates Stadium, it is clear that the North London club could get him if they made the right offer.

Torres made 30 starts and four substitute appearances in MLS in the 2022 season.

The winger scored nine goals and gave eight assists in those matches.
