Rangers want Morgan Whittaker and have already had a bid rejected for the Swansea City attacker after being recalled this month.
That’s according to Wales Online, who claim that Rangers are the mystery club who have failed with an offer for Whittaker.
Manager Russell Martin – formerly of Rangers himself – indicated last week that an offer from an unnamed club had been received.
Martin felt that the offer was ‘quite some way short’ of Swansea’s asking price but they left him out of the 3-1 win over Sunderland over the weekend.
Swansea knew that playing him in that game would rule out a potential sale, given that he has already played for Plymouth Argyle this season and can’t play for a third club.
That means the door is open for Rangers to go back in and convince Swansea to sell, but they will have to vastly improve their offer.

Who is Rangers target Morgan Whittaker?
Whittaker was born in Derby and came though the ranks with hometown club Derby County.
There were high hopes for Whittaker at Derby, especially after he made his debut for the club in August 2019 at the age of just 18.
Whittaker only played 32 games for Derby though, managing just the one goal before being sold to Swansea City in February 2021.
The move to South Wales has been tricky for Whittaker, who has scored five goals for the Swansea but has played only 22 games.
After a strong loan spell with Lincoln City last season. Whittaker has really excelled with Plymouth Argyle this term.
Nine goals in 31 games on loan at Home Park has catapulted Whittaker onto the radar of many clubs – and Rangers are one of them.
Add in seven assists and Whittaker has proven to be a major threat in the final third, usually playing behind a striker in Steven Schumacher’s 3-4-2-1 setup.
Schumacher has hailed Whittaker as ‘brilliant’ and it looks like Michael Beale and Rangers agree.
The 22-year-old appears to be available and Rangers could add a promising attacking talent if they can agree a fee.
