Mykhaylo Mudryk is on the verge of signing for Chelsea after they vowed to double whatever wages Arsenal were offering him.

That’s according to The Independent, who claim that Chelsea have at least doubled Arsenal’s wage offer to Mudryk in an effort to hijack the deal.

It’s added that Mudryk has been impressed with just how swift Chelsea have been with their move to sign him.

Mudryk’s preference for weeks, even months now has been to sign for Arsenal and join Ukrainian international teammate Oleksandr Zinchenko in North London.

Arsenal have been pushing to sign Mudryk but after having multiple bids rejected, Chelsea have now swooped in and a deal is close.

Chelsea getting a deal agreed so quickly when Arsenal have failed to do so seems to have tempted Mudryk and he will be joining the Blues soon.

Mykhaylo Mudryk to watch Chelsea v Crystal Palace

What a hammer blow this is for Arsenal.

The Gunners have been chasing Mudryk for so long and many thought that Arsenal would ultimately get their man in the end.

Instead, Chelsea have gazumped the Gunners and their wild spending under Todd Boehly continues.

This feels like it has come at a terrible time for Arsenal, mere hours ahead of the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

Players shouldn’t be too bothered but it’s just an unwelcome distraction – and a feeling that Arsenal may have missed their chance at a top talent.

Mudryk, 21, still needs to develop a lot and the fee – around €100million (£89million) – is pretty astonishing.

Some may wonder if Arsenal still have a chance to get this deal done but Fabrizio Romano claims that Mudryk will be at Stamford Bridge on Sunday to watch Chelsea in action against Crystal Palace.

That suggests that the deal is pretty much done and Arsenal will not only have to face the pain of missing out on Mudryk, but then seeing him feature for a Premier League and London rival.
