Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn has raved about his teammate and reported Tottenham Hotspur target Emi Martinez on Sky Sports Premier League (7:25pm, January 13, 2023).
McGinn has said that former Arsenal goalkeeper Martinez, who has been linked with a move to Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window, is “unique”.
The Scotland international midfielder has added that the Argentina international goalkeeper is the best in the world in saving penalty kicks.
Martinez won the 2022 Qatar World Cup with Argentina.
The former Arsenal goalkeeper was superb in the final against France and saved a penalty in the shootout as well.
Well-known and well-respected journalist Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Martinez is among the goalkeepers that Tottenham are interested in signing and are keeping an eye on him.

Praise for Tottenham Hotspur target Emi Martinez
McGinn said about Martinez: “He is a unique character. I remember watching it in the house, and thinking if this goes to penalties, then he is the best penalty-kick keeper in the world.
“He likes the fun and games that go along with it, but he has been brilliant for us, and hopefully it will continue.”
Could a transfer happen?
In our view, Emi Martinez would be a good signing for Tottenham Hotspur, although we do not think that a transfer will happen because of his Arsenal connections.
Martinez joined Villa from Arsenal in 2020 for £20 million (The Guardian).
Would the Argentine cross the North London divide and move to Spurs?
Probably not.
