Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Liverpool’s transfer plans and Teun Koopmeiners.

The Reds have been strongly linked with a move for the Atalanta midfielder over the past fortnight, with the player himself even addressing the rumours at one point – claiming it’s nice to see his name linked with such a fantastic club.

However, according to Jacobs, a move to Anfield isn’t imminent for the Dutch international.

Indeed, his sources suggest that while Koopmeiners has been scouted by Liverpool, this interest is actually with a view to a summer move rather than a winter transfer.

Summer move possible

Jacobs shared what he’s heard about Koopmeiners.

“Liverpool do need a midfielder, but they’re not going to just move for the sake of it. There is a balance between what they can get now in January and the summer,” Jacobs said.

“I think what has fuelled this is that the player said that the link with Liverpool was nice to see, although he added that he was focused on Atalanta. A player can be flattered and fuel something, but that doesn’t mean it’s leading to something imminently.

“What I know talking to sources is that the 24-year-old has been scouted before the World Cup, that may be for an escalated winter move, but the original scouting was as an option for the summer.”

“The chances of getting him to Anfield are relatively slim and that’s because at the Atalanta end they’re categorical in saying that a mid-season sale is off the table. The key thing here is about admiration, not leading to advancement, and that’s where fans can get over excited. I would be staggered if he moves in January.”

Keep an eye on him

While a January move seemingly isn’t on the cards for the ‘extraordinary’ midfielder, it sounds as though a summer transfer is very possible.

Indeed, the Reds will revamp their midfield in the summer with multiple signings by the sounds of it, and Koopmeiners may well be one of them.

This is certainly a player to keep an eye on in the second-half of this season, because if he keeps up his good form, he may just earn himself a move to Anfield.
