Celtic are confident that their latest offer for Rangers target Cho Gue-sung will now be accepted as they chase the striker’s signature.

That’s according to The Scottish Sun, who claim that Celtic now believe they are in pole position to sign Cho after weeks of speculation.

The report notes that Celtic have offered £2.6million for Cho, with a 50% sell-on clause up to £5.2million.

That’s less up front than MLS side Minnesota United are offering, as they have put £4.4million on the table.

Yet Celtic are confident that Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors will now accept their latest proposal and set the wheels in motion for a move to Parkhead.

Celtic want Cho to replace Giorgos Giakoumakis, with the Greek striker looking likely to leave this month.

It’s noted that an £8million move to Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan is being discussed, creating funds for Cho to arrive.

Rangers will kick themselves if Celtic sign Cho Gue-sung

It looks like Celtic are now moving clear of the chasing pack to sign Cho – and that includes rivals Rangers.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon reported on Monday that Rangers were pushing harder than Celtic to sign Cho.

Yet as things stand, Celtic have an offer on the table and Rangers don’t. It would take quite the hijack attempt to drag Cho to Ibrox now.

Missing out on Cho would be one thing for Rangers to deal with, but seeing him join Celtic? That could be a nightmare situation.

Rangers have seen Antonio Colak and Kemar Roofe suffer injury problems whilst Alfredo Morelos looks set to leave later this year.

Rangers need a star striker who can find the net and ultimately help the Gers close the gap to Celtic.

Instead, Cho – who scored two superb goals for South Korea and has been a regular goalscorer for Jeonbuk – could be heading for Celtic themselves.

That’s the worst of all worlds for Rangers and they may well end up kicking themselves if the 24-year-old goes to the other side of Glasgow and continues to find the net.
