Celtic want Gornik Zabrze striker Szymon Włodarczyk as their pursuit of a new striker for this month’s transfer window continues.

That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who claims that interest in Włodarczyk is really mounting.

Romano told Meczyki in Poland that Gornik striker Włodarczyk is on Celtic’s radar as Ange Postecoglou chases a new goalscorer.

Romano added that Anderlecht and Freiburg are also in the race to sign Włodarczyk, but some Serie A clubs are already looking towards him for the summer.

Włodarczyk is even being compared to Robert Lewandowski with Celtic possibly looking to get in early for this exciting young striker.

“This young striker playing for Gornik Zabrze, he’s a very talented boy, I’m told that there in Poland, you consider him as a potential young Lewandowski, already with seven goals and it can be double at the end of the season, so a very good talent.”

“I’m told that some clubs are exploring a move for him, including Anderlecht, Celtic and also Freiburg, but some Serie A clubs are also moving for the summer,” he added.

Who is Celtic target Szymon Włodarczyk?

Włodarczyk was born in Poland but actually started his youth career in Greece with Aris Thessaloniki and OFI Crete.

The reason for that is that Włodarczyk is the son of former Poland international striker Piotr Włodarczyk, who played for Aris and OFI between 2008 and 2011.

When Włodarczyk returned to Poland with Baltyk Gdynia in 2011, Szymon joined their youth ranks and has ascent started.

Legia Warsaw snapped him up, let him go to SEMP Ursynow and then resigned him again in 2017, allowing him to rise through the ranks.

After 15 goals in 43 games for Legia’s B team, Włodarczyk was given a first-team run but scored just once in 16 games.

Włodarczyk decided to move on last summer, signing for Ekstraklasa rivals Gornik Zabrze – and that decision has ben inspired.

The 20-year-old has bagged seven goals in just 15 league games for Gornik and is regularly partnering Lukas Podolski in attack.

Celtic have signed a number of Polish players over the years in Artur Boruc, Lukasz Zaluksa, Maciej Zurawski, Pawel Brozek Dariusz Dziekanowski and Dariusz Wdowczyk.

Włodarczyk could be the next in that list if Celtic can bring the young goalscorer to Parkhead this month.
