Kevin Kyle has told Open Goal that Rangers need to consider a “daft bid” to sign striker Kevin Nisbet this month – suggesting that the 10-time Scotland star would score even more than he is currently doing, if he moved to Ibrox.

NIsbet, 25, has come back from an anterior cruciate ligament injury and is already, on fire. Hitting the ground running after the World Cup break, he scored at Ibrox against Rangers – but ultimately, losing 3-2. He has five goals in five.

Largely thanks to his hat-trick in a 3-2 win over Motherwell on Sunday. Meanwhile, Rangers could do with a striker this month – with Alfredo Morelos’ out of contract. His fitness remains in question – earning criticism from Derek Ferguson.

Antonio Colak has only managed 45 minutes under Michael Beale in his six games in charge. There are also question marks over whether the Croatian striker will suit Beale’s men. The first half at Dundee United was proof of that doubt.

Ex-Rangers striker Kyle was discussing Rangers and who they could bring in, in the current window. He suggests that Rangers look at Nisbet – pointing towards that if he can score goals for Hibs, he will score even more for Rangers.

“The chances Rangers go and spend £5m, £10m on a striker is going to be slim. Nisbet has come back in, I’m not trying to take him away from Hibs. But the boy is a goalscorer, that’s evident. Rangers create chances.

“He looks like he has come back [from injury] in far greater nick than he ever was. Leaner, meaner. Is he worth Rangers making a daft bid for?”, Kyle said, when discussing who Rangers could sign to improve their options in the final third.

Nisbet would be perfect. Beale likes a striker that can drop in, hold the ball up and bring others into play. Morelos has done that in his first few games in charge, while Colak is more of a last-man striker. Getting on the end of crosses.

Nisbet has shown in his time at Easter Road that he is capable of doing both. A physical striker that is excellent in the air, technically good enough to play out wide – and a burst of pace, too. The movement for his hat-trick goal is clever.

If Rangers do go after a striker this month, Nisbet should be right at the top of the list. Whether Rangers do look to add in the final third is another question – with Todd Cantwell and Tom Davies the two most-likely incomings.
