Fabrizio Romano has said that Tottenham will soon open talks with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Ecuador wonderkid Piero Hincapie, who has been linked with the north London club for some time.

Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, the Italian transfer guru revealed that Spurs will take a big step in their quest to sign the 21-year-old defender in the coming days, with Hincapie recently impressing at the 2022 FIFA World Cup with La Tri.

Romano said about Tottenham signing Hincapie: “They will have talks for Piero Hincapie, the centre-back of Bayer Leverkusen, Ecuadorian player, very good player. He is also appreciated by Italian clubs. But Tottenham will have some conversations now with the idea of signing him in the summer.”

With an asking price of £34m according to the Sun, Hincapie will be quite the expensive signing for Tottenham, with Antonio Conte already spending quite a good amount of money in his two transfer windows on defenders. However, the Bundesliga star could be worth the hassle.

Regarded by many as one of the best young defenders in world football, winning the race to sign Hincapie could secure Tottenham’s back line for many years to come, with this latest update from Romano incredibly encouraging for the north London side.

Indeed, whilst many supporters are asking for Tottenham to sign a central midfielder or a creative attacker, few would complain about Fabio Paratici and company going in to secure Hincapie’s signature for the summer window, with the defender a player Spurs can’t afford to miss out on.

Tottenham’s transfer has been hit and miss since the dawn of time, yet there’s no denying that signing a 21-year-old centre-back with as much top-flight and international experience as Hincapie is a sure-banker for Spurs, with Paratici in need of a win in the transfer market.

Versatile, strong and with room to grow under a coach like Conte, Hincapie is ideal to partner alongside the likes of Cristian Romero in the defence, with the Ecuador star perfect for Tottenham’s future and an ideal player to replace the likes of Eric Dier in the long-term.
