Pundit Ally McCoist said that Joelinton looks like a ‘different human being’ after his stellar display for Newcastle United in their 2-0 win against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.
Alan Shearer, much like McCoist also gushed over the £40 million (Guardian) man after his ‘outstanding’ performance against Leicester on Tuesday night.
As Newcastle were being held to a scoreless draw for much of the contest, Joelinton decided to take the game by the scruff of the neck, playing a delightful one-two with Dan Burn, before the latter netted the winner.
In the 72nd minute, the former Hoffenheim ace was back at his best, getting on the end of an incisive Miguel Almiron through ball before finishing like the seasoned striker he arrived as.
Operating in both midfield and left wing this season, Joelinton has consistently delivered for Newcastle United.
While several Magpies felt the Brazilian had a case for being one of their most unsuccessful signings in recent history, he has transformed into one of the side’s most key players under Eddie Howe.
A key factor behind this remains that Howe decided to utilise Joelinton as a box-to-box midfielder, a role he has taken to excellently rather than playing in his natural position as a No.9.
And now, one of the most vocal pundits in the game has raved about the 26-year-old after the contest.
