Marseille midfielder Matteo Guendouzi could make a Premier League return – and club officials believe Aston Villa want to sign him.
That’s according to French newspaper L’Equipe, as translated by Get French Football News.
It’s stated that Guendouzi has a concrete approach on the table from a Premier League club and may now look to leave Marseille.
The club chasing Guendouzi is unknown but Marseille officials believe that Aston Villa are the club interested in the midfielder.
Marseille aren’t exactly looking to sell Guendouzi but making a tidy profit on the former Arsenal man may be very appealing.
Marseille paid €11million (£9.7million) to sign Guendouzi from Arsenal last summer and flipping him for more cash this month is an attractive proposition.

Aston Villa boss Emery signed Matteo Guendouzi for Arsenal
The big connection here is that Aston Villa boss Unai Emery loves Guendouzi.
Emery signed Guendouzi for Arsenal back in the summer of 2018, paying £8million having spotted his potential with Lorient.
Guendouzi nailed down a key role in the Arsenal team under Emery and looked set to become a superstar.
However, Emery’s replacement Mikel Arteta didn’t really take to Guendouzi, sanctioning loans to Hertha Berlin and Marseille before a permanent exit.
Guendouzi appears to absolutely love Emery, taking to Twitter in 2021 to call him ‘so unique’ whilst praising his ability to win trophies.
ESPN reported in 2020 that Guendouzi had actually rejected a move to Villarreal as Emery tried to re-sign him.
Fast forward nearly three years and Emery now appears to be interested in Guendouzi once again.
A second shot at Premier League success would surely appeal to Guendouzi but Villa being in for another midfielder is a touch surprising.
Boubacar Kamara is shining whilst Douglas Luiz, Jacob Ramsey, Morgan Sanson and Leander Dendoncker will all be at Emery’s disposal moving forward.
An injury to John McGinn may have intensified Villa’s interest in Guendouzi, with this move now one for Villa fans to keep close tabs on.
