Alex Moreno could triple his wages at Aston Villa as the Premier League outfit close in on a £12 million deal to sign Real Betis’ La Liga flyer, according to El Desmarque.

Next summer, Moreno will celebrate his 30th birthday. Aston Villa obviously feel that longevity is one of the left-back’s strengths, however, as prepare to hand him a long-term contract that should keep him in the Midlands well into his 30s.

Moreno, Estadio Deportivo say, could sign a deal until the summer of 2027. What’s more, the one-time Espanyol left-back will reportedly earn three times more at Villa Park than he takes home at Betis’ Benito Villamarin stadium.

Salary Sport believe Moreno currently earns around £22,000-a-week. If the rumours are true, one of Europe’s most productive attacking full-backs will earn closer to £70,000-a-week in claret-and-blue.

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are signing Alex Moreno from Real Betis

Moreno will become the first signing of the Unai Emery era at Aston Villa. Presumably, the former Villarreal coach was alerted to Moreno’s talents during his time in La Liga. Moreno, a one-time Nottingham Forest target, scored five goals and setting up five more as Real Betis qualified for the Europa League while winning the Copa del Rey in 2021/22.

El Desmarque say that Moreno – who has been left out of Betis’ Spanish Super Cup squad – should board a flight to England at some point on Tuesday. Time will tell if he can be registered in time for Friday’s Premier League clash with Leeds United.

Villa will reportedly pay around £13 million for Moreno, investing £11.8 million up front. Emery is hoping to bring in reinforcements for the attacking areas too; Villarreal duo Arnaut Danjuma and Nicolas Jackson among those linked.

Morgan Sanson, Frederic Guilbert and Marvelous Nakamba, meanwhile, could head for the exit before the month is out. Philippe Coutinho’s future is equally uncertain. Corinthians’ president admitted over the weekend that he hopes to bring the former Barcelona ace back to Brazil.

Though a deal, he said, is ‘very difficult’ to do.

“There is a conversation. There is the will (to make the move happen). But it’s a very difficult business,” explains Duilio Monteiro Alves explains.

“Corinthians wants to borrow (loan). It is very difficult. It’s still very premature but you have to try.

“You can’t know (whether we can afford Coutinho). It depends a lot. We don’t have an open negotiation with the club, it will depend a lot on what they may have on offer. But, if the deal goes through, we are in a position to bring him in.”
