Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim insists he is ‘not afraid’ of losing Pedro Porro and Marcus Edwards while pointing out that Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur would have to pay around £65 million for the duo, speaking to Record

Insert your own Daniel Levy joke here.

One-time Manchester City youngster Porro, Fabrizio Romano says, is keen on a move to North London. The Spain international is Spurs’ number one choice to strengthen Antonio Conte’s right-hand flank, but Sporting’s reluctance to sell for a penny less than his £35 million release clause certainly complicates matters.

As you might have noticed, this is not a club who tend to throw money around.

According to Record, the 2021 Portuguese champions would let Edwards return to Spurs for half-price, given that Tottenham have a 50 per cent sell-on clause in the Enfield-born forward’s contract.

£30 million is still a substantial fee for a player who left Spurs for around £1 million three years ago, of course, even if the former England U20 international has come on leaps and bounds since then.

In 25 games, Edwards has nine goals and nine assists this season; channelling his inner-Messi with a stirring performance against his former club in the Champions League group stages.

“I’m not afraid of anything,” explains Amorim, who was recently linked with the Wolves and Aston Villa jobs. “(But) we have to be aware of the moment of the club. We’re growing as a league. We are not as attractive a league as others, and we cannot pay certain wages. We have this difficulty,”

“Last year, (PSG loanee Pablo) Sarabia was involved in 26 goals. We missed those goals. We didn’t get any financial compensation, and we can’t live like this,” Amorim adds, insisting that Sporting will not let Porro or Edwards go on the cheap.

“When we lose a player like that, we have to receive money to rebuild the machine. We know the amount of attacks that go through Porro and Marcus. Nobody is blind here. But the market is how it is. As has been said, they only leave through the (release) clause.

“They are very happy at Sporting.”

Per Record, Spurs would have to part with around £65 million to take Porro and Edwards back to England.
