Meet TCU coach Sonny Dykes and his wife Kate and their children ahead of the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against the Georgia Bulldogs.
Today (9 January 2023) marks the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. The title game will take place from SoFi Stadium and will see the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs take on the No. 3 TCU Horned Frogs.

Dykes has been coaching at the collegiate level since 1997, and has worked at Southern Methodist University (SMU), the University of California, Berkeley, and Louisiana Tech University, among many other programs.

Ahead of the matchup, fans want to know more about his personal life. Sonny Dykes’ wife is Kate Dykes, who is the sister of current UTEP basketball coach Joe Golding.
In an interview with DFW Child, Kate spoke about meeting Sonny for the first time. Sonny was 34 at the time and Kate was 22.
“I wanted to be a sideline reporter, but my whole life I was an athlete,” Kate said. “My dad is a coach, my grandfather is a coach, my oldest brother is a coach. I worked in the sports information department at Texas Tech when I was a student. Our families knew each other through coaching, but he’s 12 years older, so Sonny and I just never really crossed paths.
“When I finished at Texas Tech, I saw they had a bunch of coaches out one night during football camp. We ran into each other and he said, “Oh, what do you want to do after you finish school?” He’s like, “Oh, I’ll help you find a job. Let me take your number.” So, he reached out and said, “Here’s what you need to do.” It was very organic; we just never didn’t talk every day after.”
They have only had three disagreement, according to Sonny
Kate and Sonny have been married for 17 years, and according to Sonny, they have only ever had three disagreements.
Speaking to the media the day before their national championship game, Dykes said: “We’ve had three disagreements in our marriage in 17 years.
“One of them was about Shaq and Kobe. I’m a Shaq guy and she’s a Kobe girl. That was probably about as an eventful argument we’ve had in our marriage.
“So, I’m a Shaq dude through-and-through. Always have been. He’s (Shaq) is a Texas guy, too.”

Sonny and Kate Dykes have two daughters and a son
The couple have two daughters and a son – Allie, Charlie, and Daniel.
